Corymbia citriodora - Lemon scented gumCorymbia citriodora - Lemon scented gum
This has a smooth, white to pink maybe coppery coloured bark with oval to lance shaped leaves which have a strong lemon aroma. Unchecked this will eventually become a very tall tree but it's often pruned and kept as a containerised tree. The lemon scent is so strong it's noticeable just by standing beside the tree. Crush the leaves and the lemon scent is intense. The scent makes this a good choice for repelling insects or an ingredient in potpourri. It's a subtropical tree that will only withstand short periods of slight frosts. In the UK we would expect most of these to be kept in a conservatory especially during the winter.
