Growing In Pots

ContainerGrown

Eucalyptus make an excellent choice for growing in a pot. Either on a sunny patio or even indoors so long as there is plenty of light. Container-grown specimens will grow slower than those planted in the field, and would need to be kept pruned to a reasonable size.

As for pot size, the bigger the better.

Below is a selection of trees suited to being grown in pots

Unusual because the elliptical juvenile leaves are joined around the stem and when they die, they detach from the stem and can spin round it in a breeze - hence the name 'spinning gum'. This is also a cold hardy and exposure tolerant variety and can be cut back or coppiced to produce new juvenile growth. The juvenile growth can be used in fresh and dried flower arrangements.

Mature Height: 10m
Rate of Growth: 1-1.5m per year
Hardiness: *** -15°C +
Soil: Neutral
Position: Wind & Exposure Tolerant
Growth Habit: Tall and spreading crown, can be kept clipped as shrub for production of young leaves.
Leaves: Young leaves are round glaucous blue-green, adult leaves long thin and blue-grey.
Bark: The smooth bark is white, green to pale copper, shedding in ribbons
Special Interest: Ornamental Specimen, Can be Container Grown, Floristry
