Veru cold hardy, they tend to take a couple of years or so to establish i.e. growing slowly, before they grow faster. They also need good drainage as these are normally accustomed to rocky alpine conditions.
E. niphophlia differs from other subspecies of pauciflora in that it has more narrower leaves and an smaller ultimate height.
